Interview Story

It was Easter and my whole family was over at my grandmother's house for dinner. There was a lot of food, including chicken, mashed potatoes, and pot raost. I did not want to try the pot roast because it didn't look appetizing so i passed on it and later my grandma asked me if I had tried it and I said no. She seemed upset. After dinner we sat around and ate many jelly beans.

Reaction to Villanueva exercises

I found that doing these exercises helped me look at the same writing but from another perspective. Usually you would never do this or even realize the tone that the writing is in to begin with. After doing this you can more easily look through tougher passages and reword them to your own tastes and make it more pleasant to read.

Academic to Casual Paragraph

Original Paragraph:
Good golfers have only about five degrees of pelvic tilt when they make contact with the ball, meaning that they lose close to 15 degrees of tilt from top to impact. But since the top-to-impact time for most Tour players is less than a third of a second, this loss or tilt converts to a very powerful thrust when the abs shorten after being stretched at address. The active loss of pelvic tilt is the same as pulling the trigger and firing a pistol. (Dr. TJ Tomasi, GOLF Magazine, May 2012)

In casual tone:
Hey golfers! If you want to get a more powerful tee shot use this tip used by Tour Pros! When Pros come down from top to bottom in their swing, they release their ab muscles to create maximum torque, therefore creating a much more powerful swing. This decreases movement and unleashes your potential energy.

Villanueva Rewrite

Forty years later, the image of  my Mom, Dad, and I running for our lives still remains in my head. Running from that lunatic with the already bloody knife in Brooklyn.

I also remember the odd memory of sitting in our unfurnished living room with Mrs. Ashell and Dad walking in with a roll of linoleum. We lived at 41 Bartlett Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

At age four I recall walking alone from Bartlett to Lee's hand laundry. Nobody would even care that I was alone, or ask where my Mommy was.

"Wrote" His Name Down in History

Voice 1 (from a golfer's perspective):
Rory McIlroy wrote his name down in golf history after he came back to win the 2011 U.S. Open after  a devastating final round at the 2011 Masters. He dominated the U.S. Open field and eventually won by an incredible 10 shots on Sunday. He became the second youngest player to win a U.S. Open behind Tiger Woods. Rory will continue to become a better golfer and probably beat Tiger's record of wins and majors.

Voice 2 (from a non-sports fan):
This kid named Rory, what a funny name, apparently hit his ball the least amount of times last week and won a tournament. People are acting like it is a big deal. I just don't understand it. You hit a little white ball around for four days and then people cheer and talk about you for a long time. I guess i have to say congradualtions to him, but I don't know why.
