Project 4: Houses
Project 2: Pattern & Color
Spaceship Earth
Spaceship Earth at Epcot in Walt Disney World is a very
strong memory I have from my childhood. I can remember going there several
times when I was younger. The pattern of Spaceship Earth always intrigued me. I
don’t know why. Maybe because it sort of resembles a golf ball, and I like to
play golf. Or maybe it is because I always had a great time there and it was a
park icon that was visible most of the time. During the day you see a white
ball from afar and when you get up close, the surface is almost shiny but not
glossy. It changes from grey to white in the sunlight. The pattern is very
interesting and geometrical. It is very recognizable with Disney and Epcot and
vacations. At night, there are lights that hit the sphere and create beautiful
colors on it. I can remember being in our hotel room at night and going out on
to the balcony to peer into the distance at it. It was like an orb of light in
the dark night. I loved those vacations and this is one of those memories that
I always recall when I think about them.
Eiffel Tower at Kings Island
The Eiffel Tower at Kings Island is another special place to
me. Not only do I remember going there as a kid with my family and it always
being there on the horizon as we neared the park for a fun day, but it is also
special to me because I proposed to my wife at the top of it in 2011. The blue
color of the tower changes throughout the day and the metal framework on it has
distinct features that I can remember. There are straight lines, curved lines,
and a bunch of circles. It was always a game to see who could spy the tower
first on our drives to Kings Island. Now I enjoy going back to the top of it
when I visit to remember all of the times I have been there and to get great
views of the park. I really like looking around from up there because I love
theme parks and roller coasters. The tower has always been an image of Kings
Island and happy times to me.
Roller Coasters
I know that roller coasters are a broad range of things for
something that has had a strong influence on my life, but they really have. I’m
a huge theme park and roller coaster junkie. For as long as I can remember I
have been fascinated by roller coasters and my family has traveled to go on
them. The patterns I remember when I think of them are the large curve lines on
top with vertical lines on the bottom. Wooden ones have their own unique
patterns too, with all of the wood weaving its way through the structure. They
always have brightly colored paint schemes too that are eye catching. I just
have a picture in my head of what coasters are and that has influenced me
throughout my life. I have great memories of going on coasters and they are
just fun in general. I can remember playing roller coaster tycoon video games
all the time and designing my own rides. Now, I want to become a graphic
designer and work for a major amusement park. I currently am a writer for
Coaster101.com. It is great to be able to share coasters with others who love
them too. To me, they represent not just a fun ride, but a way of life, making
them something that has a great impact on my life. I have taken 368 rides over
78 different coasters in 15 parks, and I plan on visiting a new park next
weekend.

Reaction to Oral History
I enjoyed this assignment more than the first one because it gave you a different perspective than boring regular papers. It was cool to see someone else's point on an event that we had both experienced. It opened up memories and showed me other ways of thinking. The interviewing I found easy and it went smoothly; she had a lot to say so it helped me out too. It also was a nice break from writing just normal papers which are very boring.

Interview Story
It was Easter and my whole family was over at my grandmother's house for dinner. There was a lot of food, including chicken, mashed potatoes, and pot raost. I did not want to try the pot roast because it didn't look appetizing so i passed on it and later my grandma asked me if I had tried it and I said no. She seemed upset. After dinner we sat around and ate many jelly beans.
